Don’t Mess Up! The System Sucks.

Most of us go through our daily lives at work, building our careers, taking care of our families, pursuing our dreams, trying to stay healthy, going to church, and enjoying our friends while we live in comfortable homes with warm cooked meals and warm beds. “Some of us take for granted the hope that God will wake us up the next day and we don’t realize how good we have it.”

Imagine being one of the 18,000 people released annually from one of the dozens of prisons in the USA and now on probation, post-released, or parole. Imagine navigating your way through the different agencies all while trying to remain in compliance with community supervision, looking out for yourself, while being expected to satisfy your family obligations.

Even though you have the skills, character, and practical knowledge necessary to be successful upon returning to the community. Acceptance isn’t always a welcoming thing from everyone in the community.

What we as a society fail to realize people who come home from prison do not bounce right back into how it used to be or how it was. The game has changed.

In 2017 the North Carolina General Assembly established the State Reentry Council Collaborative
